One of the great evidences for the resurrection of Jesus from the dead is how His disciples were transformed from being fearful and defeated men into being bold witnesses who could not be silenced by prison or the sword.
Pinchas Lapide has written, “When this scared, frightened band of the apostles which was just about to throw away everything in order to flee in despair to Galilee; when these peasants, shepherds, and fishermen, who betrayed and denied their master and then failed him miserably, suddenly could be changed overnight into a confident mission society; convinced of salvation and able to work with much more success after Easter than before Easter, then no vision or hallucination is sufficient to explain such a revolutionary transformation. For a sect or school or an order, perhaps a single vision would have been sufficient – but not for a world religion which was able to conquer the Occident thanks to the Easter faith.” (The Resurrection of Jesus: A Jewish Perspective)
The Risen Jesus has not stopped transforming lives. He transformed Peter, James, John and his other original followers; and He has continued to revolutionize the lives of all of His followers throughout the centuries.
Today people cannot personally experience the difference Jesus made in the lives of the apostles. However, they can witness how Jesus has changed and is changing us. Today, we who follow Christ are his messengers. Today in the 21st Century, the love and forgiveness and boldness of Christ, living in His Church, is as powerful a witness to the Resurrection as it was in the 1st Century.
